Curley SpaMango... Words almost escaped me when naming this little beauty. It is made of Curly, Spalted, Mango... and everyone has been surprised by it's wonderful, mellow tone. This uniquely beautiful example of a cutaway design features a Master Grade Sitka Spruce top plate, Rosewood fretboard, Bridge, and tailpiece, and a slotted headstock ( veneered with Curly Koa, both sides). The tuning machines are by Rubner, handmade in Germany with a 15:1 gear ratio for precise tuning. This uke is 'Stage Ready' with Fishman electronics and does not have a truss rod. A Laminated neck of the same Mango as the body with three stringers to re-inforce it will keep it straight for decades to come, accented with Paua Abalone dots and 18 frets. A tailpiece of Curly Koa with a bridge to match, topped with a Corian saddle in Ice Blue, put the finishing touches on this unusually attractive instrument.
Building this instrument was a study in Patience and the joys of Nature. Curly wood tends to fight the carving process, but each new level revealed a new sand painting coming out of the previous level, so it was special all the way. Price reflects the fact that Mango costs about 1/8 th what instrument grade Koa does. It doesn't take any less time to build with Mango... and several folks have just loved the sounds of this one.
